Located beside the Medway river with the picturesque North Downs as a backdrop, Peters Village is a new housing development in Wouldham, Kent. With excellent transport links to London but situated close to the coast and the historic towns of Maidstone and Tonbridge, the development is conveniently located for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle. The aim of the development was to create a modern community with the tranquillity and friendliness of an old village which is why the development includes its own facilities with shops, a school, medical centre and even a traditional village hall.
We were approached by a housing developer with whom we've worked closely a number of times to design and install a 3-bed show home within their section of the development. They were after something that was eye-catching and unique but not overwhelming or alienating - it had to appeal to families and first-time buyers on a spectrum, demographically and in terms of tastes.
For these reasons, we decided to keep the furniture very neutral; avoiding the use of rich colours or dark fabrics and keeping to one particular style too much. This ensured that the interior appeals to as many people as possible which is important in smaller properties and developments with an unspecified target audience. Larger properties, those of a specific style (like a converted barn or luxury penthouse, for example) and clients with a very narrow, specified target audience would suit a more distinct style throughout.
We maintained a theme throughout of fuschia, teal and ochre. The three colours contrast well against the white, black and grey of the furniture and complement each other well to create a warm and inviting interior that is equal parts fun and mature.
We're thrilled with the final product and the client is too!
