Dulux Colour of the Year 2023: Wild Wonder

Dulux's colour of the year for 2023 is Wild Wonder, a warm but refreshing colour that works well with just about anything. Its slightly darker shade gives it versatility compared to the more vibrant Ochre that has been popular for the past few years. Wild Wonder pairs well with blue, lilac, grey, and other earthier tones like sage green and taupe.

The thought of painting your living room an earthy brown or using olive green wallpaper might seem intimidating but you don't have to be too bold to get a warm, natural look using earthy colours. In this post, we'll share a few mood boards using Dulux's palettes, selected as part of their presentation of the 2023 colour of the year.

Blues

Blue works wonderfully with earthy colours as it helps neutralise the look, adding contrast and a little colour to an otherwise plain colour palette. You can use whatever shade of blue you like, too! Whether it's a teal blue, petrol/indigo blue or lighter, sky blue, all will combine well to create a calming but glowing room.

For this mood board we chose a stunning range of mushroom-coloured living room furniture with a solid oak top and cottage-style handles. The sofa is a lovely oatmeal fabric sofa that is modern yet comfortable. A mid-grey paint provides the base for the walls with a feature wall in sky blue. Natural, rustic accessories feature, with some modern pieces to bring the interior together.

Green

Green also works well to create an inviting room that looks very natural and calming. When paired with mushroom/taupe colours it gives a slightly less muted interior compared to blue. We especially like chunky farmhouse-style furniture with lots of plants and flowers. Be mindful of sticking to less saturated greens with this style of furniture - lime/apple-like shades will be too bright against the more rustic look of the rest of the interior.

Mustard

For the final mood board, we paired a muted mustard shade of yellow with minimalistic, angular Scandinavian-style furniture. We have used this style of furniture in the past with a lighter Ochre shade which creates a fresh modern interior, but for a more earthy interior, Dulux Wild Wonder offers a bit more warmth and works especially well with darker furniture and slightly more rustic wood colours. You can even go for more rustic accessories, with tufted textures and Boho patterns/styles within the soft furnishings/rug.
